I'm a wolf child, girl, howling for you

Wildflower!!

We just got back from seeing The Cult. I saw them once in 1989 in a huge ass arena in Boston (Sonic Temple tour, I believe Bonham opened) and this was way way better. Way. Even though Ian looked like he'd just crawled out of bed. Seriously. He looked kinda skeevy.

Crappy cell phone pic alert:

I'm a wolf child, girl

Ian and Billy ragged on the Buffalo (and Northern states) shows. A few times, so I guess those shows weren't the best for them. Billy said that the people just stood there and that they knew they were getting to the south because the crowds were becoming more animated.

I don't know how much was bullshit, but I thought the crowd was pretty into it and I actually got to dance for once (too many indie shows, dancing isn't cool). Or rather, I got to jump up and down and bang my head.

It was packed. The crowd was older, so watching 40-somethings rawk out was hilarious. So was listening to all the people talk about Sabbath and awesome guitarists, etc. A completely different experience than the usual 9:30 Club concertgoers I see. There were also many more cameraphone and digital camera people then I usually see at indie shows, too. Some of the video/photos I saw people taking were quite good looking. I wonder if they'll post them online?

They started with a recording of the beginning song from A Clockwork Orange, you know Wendy/Walter Carlos's piece, I think it's Timesteps? Then the band came out and started Li'l Devil followed by Sweet Soul Sister. I don't recall what recording came on when they left the stage after the encore, but I recognized it, too.

For Brother Wolf, Sister Moon, the bassist (some young, blonde thing) played a standup electric bass, complete with bow. It was pretty damn cool. Billy said that that was the best they'd played the song on the whole tour (again, I don't know how much is bullshit).

Sadly, when they played my favorite song (Spiritwalker), the crowd wasn't as into it. Dreamtime and Love are my favorite Cult albums and those were before the Cult gained huge popularity, so I guess I should have expected it.

Ian's voice isn't what it used to be (or he was sick, because he didn't hit the high notes at all), but Billy's guitar playing was quite good. I forgot how good he was. He was pretty chatty, too. I am undecided if I am going to order the Instant Live cds. I do wish I'd gotten the Cult hoodie, though.
