Sisters of Mercy, 3.7.06, 9:30 Club, Washington DC

Short review: ehhhhh.

Longer review: I liked The Warlocks more than I thought I would. However, the crowd was really subdued for the the SOM show. While I really thought the music was pretty damn good, the whole show was ultimately disappointing because of what could have been. Andy's voice was gone. Literally. The whole second half of the show, he couldn't sing. All we got was an occasional screech from him and mumble the rest of the time. It made what could have been a really good show a disappointing one. Basically, we just bobbed around to instrumental music and a guy making gestures.

Turns out Andy has a cold. Probably the same one I have. Bleh. Poor guy. I wish he'd been at the top of his form!

But, crap, they ended with Vision Thing, which made a disappointing show, well, even more disappointing. They should know better than to end with a Vision Thing song! Esp. after Temple of Love!

I had heard bad things about the Sisters live but I loved the SOM for years and never saw them, so this time, by golly, I had to go! And seriously, up to halfway through, I thought it was much better than I expected. There were some really cool smoke & light effects provided a nice accent to the lyrics, engulfing Eldritch at the right moments. But then...all that energy just kind of petered out.

Not by any means a terrible show, but all the way up to halfway mark, I was thinking "this is great!" Then it all went downhill.
