The Future Is Now

Two deaths in the last few days: Nam June Paik and Wendy Wasserstein. *moment of silence*

Now, back to me, because it's all about me.

Neither had a direct effect on my life but I thought they were both quite interesting. Wasserstein was one of the famous non-politicos who went to my alma mater. Paik was so far ahead of the game, he may still be out front. No deep thoughts here. Too early in the morning for that.

Friday was spent de-lousing my blogs and message board from some spammer/hacker who dropped code into most of my static pages. Very annoying. Then it was off to Whole Foods and Wegmans to pick up food products that Giant no longer seems to carry or care that they don't carry. And while Wegmans carries a lot, their selection is rather weird. They carry many brands for some items but only one brand of another. At least at Whole Foods, I expect them not to carry a whole lot, but the whole reason I went there (well, besides for the sausages and cheese) was because I didn't want to have to order Mrs. Meyer's Geranium dishwashing liquid from drugstore.com. Only they didn't have it. This is the third time I've been there in a row that they didn't have it. I really don't like the other scents. But the sausages and cheese were there, so it wasn't wasted. And the sushi was fresh. I wrote Giant a note pointing out how their selection has really started to decline last week. I still haven't heard back from them. So much for customer service. Perhaps they're too busy dealing with the sewing needles found stuck in food in their PA stores.

And I have to ask, because every week, for about 5 minutes, this bothers me: was the Planters honey-roasted peanut plant located around New Orleans? Because it's just plain weird. There have been no Planters honey-roasted peanuts on the store shelves (and we're talking multiple stores, not just one) since well before Christmas. How else can we explain the proliferation of regular Planters dry-roasted peanuts and suspicious lack of honey-roasted ones? The ones in the jars, not the ones in the cans. The ones in the cans aren't cost-effective.

Saturday was nice and relaxed. A run to the CD Cellar, a small stop at Stacey's to see if they had cupcakes (they didn't), a crazy delicious Korean meal (made by Eric, of course), and hanging out with skarlet and Eric. Viewing of bad 80s fashion on Knight Rider resulted in many giggles.

I'm listening to the $1.99 Midge Ure cd I picked up at CD Cellar. It's not his best. Worth $1.99 but possibly not more. Same goes for Shesus. Worth $1.99 for the name alone. I wish I'd picked up the Wimmie Saari cd I'd seen there, but maybe it'll still be there in a few months. Ironically, I can't remember the other two cds I picked up, because those cost much more. Oh yes, Paul Weller's Wild Wood and Electrocute's Troublesome Bubblegum. I'm also still waiting on my CD Baby order. I didn't find out until too late that Corvo have a cd out there. Damn, now I'll have to order again. I do eagerly await the Basic/David J and Mr. Griddles cds, though. And the others I decided to get: Laundry, Jerret Cortese and some gothy sampler.

In more music news, Carla Bozulich's new album comes out here in June. What a long time to wait to hear her cover of Low's Pissing. Here's what she has to say about it:

EVANGELISTA (Constellation Records) out in europe mid-may. worldwide in june.

i'm home from my second trip to montreal in as many months and Evangelista, the album i recorded with the help of chums from godspeed! you black emperor, a silver mount zion, black ox orkestar, gowns, mae-shi + more is finished. there is a maelstromatic cover of one of my fav songs, Pissing by Low!!

Evangelista is a sound that you can open your chest with, pull out what's inside and make it change shapes. make it open more times and, even more... til the sound inside has finally sealed the hole where your vile/beautiful heart belongs... loved and safe even when you think you're totally alone. even if you believe in nothing. good or bad, i must report: there's really no such thing as empty space. even inside this void there is sound. you will hear it. you will see. you will be cradled and near deafened by love and mercy sounds and the sound of your own pulsing blood which used to drive me mad as a child when i would try to go to sleep.

Finally, skarlet alerted me to this gem on eBay. You know you want it. You know you need it.
