I was disappointed when Chicks on Speed left the stage last night after far too short a set and didn't have an encore. The club started the dance music up immediately. I was also perturbed that no one in the crowd clapped for them to come out for an encore. I was the only one. Damn ravey kids.
This makes me review my thoughts on encores. Because I think they're kind of ridiculous and expected and the band should just play on and then be done. So that when there is an encore, it's like a beautiful gift.
But, while intellectually I think that way, emotionally, I'm conditioned to expect one anyway. So when I don't get one and when the crowd (albeit a small one) didn't even bother to try, I was disappointed.
However, the main reason I was disappointed was not necessarily because there was no encore. I literally thought the band was just getting going when they stopped and left the stage. I mean, their set was about 40 minutes and I was expecting more than that! Then to have the dance music start up immediately (and this was at a techno - is that used to describe clubs anymore - dance club, so it was LOUD), it was jarring.
Anyway, here's a pic from the show. I didn't use flash, so every pic has that ghost movement look. I think it's kind of cool. But the lighting was pretty sucky. And although they had lots of nekkid lady parts on the screen, it looks like I didn't catch a single one.

Here are the three movies I captured. They're AVI files and my Quicktime plays them. I don't know what other players do:
COS3 (We Don't Play Guitars)
Caution: the sound is terrible. We were standing next to the wall of speakers, so it's so distorted, you can't really hear anything. But they're amusing to watch without the sound, too.
