I realize that I've been quiet lately. Working is Hard (tm), as our president would say.
I don't know if I've mentioned that so far, I really really like my new job. It's not all that different from my old, since I'm at the same building/company, but I like my supervisor so much better. And I love that I get to play with technology. And I really love that I get to choose software and hardware for this job. And that my boss's boss just said that she'd fund everything I just requested (easily $4000+), without thinking that I'd get more than a few of the software packages! I just got the news yesterday. I am a happy camper.
Did I mention that I have access to a professional sound studio at this new job? Not that I know what the hell I'm doing, but I will get to pretend that I know how to hook things up so that I can do analog to digital conversion.
It's not really all that exciting, since I have a lot to learn. A ton to learn. So much, it's really daunting. Luckily, I am a pretty quick study when it comes to practical applications (not with intangible and mathematical concepts, though), so it should be ok. I think. At least, I hope I don't give myself a nasty electric shock (which I did the one time I plugged a bass into an amplifier and haven't ever touched an electric guitar since). I'm also really keen on learning how to digitize video.
And in all my spare time (laugh) at this job, I sometimes think back on my 14-year old self, who was laughed at when I decided that I wanted to be a studio sound producer and called a local studio to ask if I could apprentice. I was told that girls don't make good technicians and that I should probably wait until I was older to even consider it. Bastards. Of course, I know they're wrong, and I was really upset at the time but too young to realize it was sexism. But it still seems to be a male-dominated field, no? How many producers out there are women? How many technicians are women? I wonder what the statistics are, but it always seems to be male names I see.
At any rate, I like this new job. Busy, and not without it's drawbacks, but I get to play with technology and I no longer have to deal with the public!
Completely unrelated: Mick Karn is da bomb. He's got a new ep out. Must add that to the Sigur Ros and Yat-Kha list.
( 10:01 FH | o! frabjous joy! )You mentioned Bahaus in an earlier post (the comments do not work though?). I never knew they were still touring as a band? Peter Murphy plays at our club (www.k17.de) this month and I canīt wait to see him! That will be one of those rare occasions when I stay after the office work is done and see what has become of all the paper work and organizing! :)

Well, Bauhaus did the Resurrection tour in 1998 and played the Coachella festival in May? June? of this year. And now the rumor is that Bauhaus will tour this fall. Ticketmaster had three dates up for around Halloween in Los Angeles but took them down, because I guess things were not finalized.
Peter Murphy has great stage presence. I love his voice.
You can find out more information at petermurphy.info, which is where the new tour info came from (not from the site but from the Peter Murphy discussion listserv). But (she says, getting a plug in) you can also check my Love and Rockets blog ( lnr.loungebunny.net ) or my L&R message board, Torched ( lnr.loungebunny.net/torched/ ), which is where the most recent news is always posted. :)
Posted by: bunny at 16.07.05 10:34I forgot to add that no, Bauhaus are not together, but I suspect that they need the money for their solo projects and know they have an audience that will go to see them, so they tour now and then. It's good for us fans! :)
Posted by: bunny at 16.07.05 10:36Definately. Well I might just sneak into the backstage area and ask him about it. Ha ha, as if I dared. :D I might put something into his coffee though, brainwash him and steal all of his secrets.
Posted by: nina at 17.07.05 07:42Ooh, it would be so nice if you could ask him - but I know how difficult it is to ask someone with his amazing reputation something like that. Eek. I couldn't. Maybe put someone else up to it? We're all wanting confirmation!
Posted by: bunny at 17.07.05 08:02Bunny, Thank you for reminding me that Mick Karn is Da Bomb. I hadn't thought of his music in a long time and thanks to your reference to him I am now at his site dl'ng his free mp3's. Gentlemen do take polaroids indeed.
Posted by: josechung at 18.07.05 01:39I'm so glad that you're liking the new job!
I *heart* Peter Murphy. :o)
