Mac Power!

24 months same as cash financing at Micro Center allowed me to upgrade from my cute but slow and tempermental Snow iMac G3 running 10.1.5 to a sweet little Macmini G4 with all of the add-ins, running Tiger. And I have a brand new G5 at work! Now need to figure out Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere? What A/D converter? What DVD burner? Does the sound studio have decent equipment?

Now we can take the old one (with the sometimes tempermental screen) and use it to digitize our cassettes and lps. :)

The Macminis are adorable!!!! I don't NEED one - but I have Macgreed just looking at them!!!!
If you get Final Cut Pro I have a manual to recommend that I used to teach out of. I think both FCP and Adobe are great - FCP may have more industry use tho. But then I'm about a year out of the tech loop so I'm sure things have changed....

Mine is the cutest little bug! The only complaint I have is that the hard drive does not seem to like the Firewire external drive that I have. It reads it fine, but if I leave the drive attached when it goes to sleep, it won't wake up. Maybe that was the problem with the last Mac, too. Hmm.

I've decided not to go with either FCP or AP for now. We don't need extreme programs for the next year at least, so we can put it in the budget for next year. Right now the priority is images, so we need a bunch of copies of the newest verion of Photoshop. Since the sound studio can convert analogue to digital and burn to cd, I am just suggesting that this year we purchase Roxio Digital Media Studio Deluxe Suite 7 for the PC and Toast and Jam 7 for the Mac as well as a two good A/D converters (one USB, one Firewire). We can do good enough with those until it becomes apparant that we need more capability. We are, after all, only going to be digitizing bits of interviews or pieces of recordings for the Website, not streaming large movies.
