Another cd I should have picked up: The Faint. I don't know why, but I'm loving the cheesy New Wave-ness of the songs I got from Insound. So catchy! The bass reminds me of Duran Duran. You can find a lot more Faint mp3s here.
Another band I'm looking to check out: The Dears. I really like Lost in the Plot. The lead singer sounds a bit like Morrissey and I really dig the Duran Duran-ish sliding keyboard? guitar? sound. The second song on their site is not as good. The voice manipulation reminds me of Mark E. Smith but the singer doesn't have Mark E.'s inflection (in-fleck--SHUN-uh! Hit the North!).
Next, I am finding The Oohlas, a band recommended by Ultragrrl Sarah, quite interesting. I like Rupert Krikor Chang a lot although I am not as enamoured with Ballerina Blues. I don't have any more of their songs and can't really tell what the cd is for sale at their PayPal site, so I'm hesitant to buy it. At times, Ollie sounds like Michael Quercio. Which isn't surprising, really, since Michael always sounded like a girl anyway. And, no, they don't remind me of Duran Duran.
Ooh, I have just discovered good sources for free mp3s online, thanks to my favorite iPod site, iPodlounge. 3hive is a good place to start.
Still thinking the Mac mini is the ca-yootest thing. It wouldn't cost much via Apple financing but alas, I'd need to buy the flat-screen monitor, which makes the cost too great.
