Um, if you think that way then doesn't it confuse the child to "celebrate the devil" at any time? If you're going to be so freaky about things, then just don't allow the child to celebrate the candy god at all.
For that matter, when did Halloween become Satan's holiday? When did fearing/respecting the souls of the dearly and not-so-dearly departed become all about the Downstairs Him (Hush, you in the front row! I know it's all due to the miseducation of the hoi polloi but I'm leaving that out to make you think. I mean, not even the Pope made it about the Big Red Him. I'm not going to get into the red thing, either. Nope. Not gonna. Ok, maybe later, when I've read The Origin of Satan or The History of Hell, two books I do really wish I had.)?
I hate to break it to y'all (or, as Britney spells it, ya'll), but not everything is all about the Upstairs or Downstairs Hims, you know. Nor the Upstairs or Downstairs Hers. In fact, most things are about ME.

Frankly I think that the only reason those folks are so damn proud of their anti-Halloween beliefs is because at this time of year reporters will actually listen to them. The rest of the year they're wingnuts. I mean, I'm sure you could find someone in the same group who would tell you football is an evil tool of Satan because there are plenty of folk missing out on Sunday services to watch a game. Interesting we never hear anything about that point of view. And why? Because America loves it's football, dammit, don't stand in its way!
Of course look how many years the folks have tried to kill off Halloween - and it's still with us. And remember those Puritans who tried to kill of Christmas? Yeah, nice try. It's nice to know that the happy festive nature of the seasons is beyond the reach of people who'd like to force us all to do what they say. Too many control freaks around. But it's nice to know they'll always be thwarted.
