Beer

I am drinking Buffalo Bill's Brewery Orange Blossom Cream Ale. It's nice and refreshing. Not quite beer, though. People don't seem to like it much but I have an unhealthy love of orange flower water, so I like it. The best I can describe it is like this: orange soda without sweetner mixed with beer. Doesn't sound appetizing, huh.

Music purchased last night:

Fluke - Puppy
Electrocute - Tribute to your...
Tweaker - 2 am Wakeup Call
some compilation of Indian electronica
Franz Ferdianad (this one was sweetie's purchase)

I got a stomach ache last night when I was practicing Blixa Bargeld screams. I can do them but I must swallow a lot of air. Coop wasn't very appreciative but I was pleasantly suprised. Someday I want to do a cover album, just for myself. So far, I'd like to cover songs by:

Love and Rockets
Eisley
Einsturzende Neubauten
Snakefarm
Tanya Donelly
Blake Hazard
Marilyn Manson
Shampoo
Chicks on Speed
Proof of Utah
Longshoremen
Massive Attack
Rasputina
and more. :)

I'll never do it but it's nice to think about.

Now I have a few questions:

1. Why do telephone batteries always die in the middle of conversations?
2. Why do I like flashy batteries for my phone although they don't last as long as a (boring) non-flashing battery?
3. Why do I love treacle biscuits to an unhealthy degree?
4. Why do news channels devote so much time to Reagan's death yet not say anything new (what is there to say anyway)?
5. Will we get another day off from work so they can have another presidential parade (last one was Nixon)?
6. Has anyone actually seen the opera Nixon in China and is it any good?
7. Why do I have all this musical equipment given to me by tebello yet no power cords (and why do they all require adapters that cannot be purchased from Radio Shack)?
8. Why do people hate electroclash so?
9. How brilliant are Aphex Twin's Techno Tetris (LOVE that Game Boy sound!) and Tweaker's Movement of Fear cover?
10. Why can't I remember what was really bothering me instead forcing me to ask inane questions that don't really bother me.

What played on iTunes while I was writing this (alpha order, natch):

Minty - Useless Man
Miranda Sex Garden - Caravan, Gush Forth My Tears
Missy Elliot - Pass The Dutch, The Rain, Get Ur Freak On
Mo' Horizons - Foto Viva (Nicola Conte mix)
Mocean Worker - Times of Danger

Scampered away last night to get in on your meme and forgot to leave a comment! Several groups there that I don't know, or have heard of and not heard - and boy do I miss the days when I could just wander down to your room to get an earfull of music!
*sigh*
Also I'd love to hear your cover of Einstur!
I still love Morning Dew at the wrong speed.
*giggle*
And now, because I can't resist, to the questions.

1) This is one of those natural laws. Like gravity and such.
2) Because things with flashy lights are like shiney things - they attract! And make you want to have and collect and play with!
*suddenly has an Inner Magpie moment*
3) Why have I not had treacle biscuits? Where would I look to find such things? And what do they taste like?
4) What I'm amazed by is the fact that the press never managed to get any photos - I mean, it either shows amazing respect or amazing security around the man. Also listening to the old speeches - it just shows how inept the current pres. is in his delivery - at least Reagan always sounded like he believed what he was saying, or at least had read it before. *sigh*
5) You get a whole day off for that?! How long (blockwise) does this parade go on/last?
6) I've read that it existed - but only of performances in the past. And nothing about whether it was good or not. Which isn't really helpful, huh.
7) Power cords are the bane of my existance. Well, not really - it's just that they all look SO similar and it's so hard to tell which goes with what. If I was more organized I'd attach labels to everything - but I never do. (Mostly I wanted to use the word bane in that sentence. It's one of those words you wish you could use more often.)
8) Um, I haven't heard of them? I feel absolutely neutral towards them.
9) These too. Not heard of. I'm so out of it. My coolness is constantly being negated...
10) I feel like that all the time. Annoying, isn't it?

Last listened to on iTunes: Weird Al's Poodle Hat
Currently listening to: various D Day docs on tv
Currently wishing: that Bunny had an online radio show

3) Why have I not had treacle biscuits? Where would I look to find such things? And what do they taste like?

Treacle biscuits are available at Cost Plus/World Market. They're California based, so you must have one near you. In fact, you do. They carry lots of British candy, sweets, gourmet, hard to find stuff, etc., plus different beers (that's where I got the orange flower beer). I used to love them in the SF area but they were all Cost Pluses then. I don't know how many have changed their names to WM.

5) You get a whole day off for that?! How long (blockwise) does this parade go on/last?

We did for Nixon, so I can't imagine they'd do less for Reagan. They block off and secure all main city streets between the White House and Capital and expect it to be so crowded that they give the federal govt the day off (also to attend, if they wish). Don't know what they'll do for Reagan - could be on a weekend for all I know and it won't matter then.

If I was more organized I'd attach labels to everything - but I never do.

I did. They all fell off.

8) Um, I haven't heard of them?

Electroclash is a type of music (not to be confused with Electrocute or Electrelane, which are bands, or I am Electro, which is a song). It's like a retro 80s New Wave sound. It's not quite the same but similar. Loads of people completely scoff at it since it's nothing new but I kinda like it. It reminds me of loving Duran Duran, Ultravox, Visage, etc. Bands that fall into the electroclash genre are: Electrocute, Ladytron, Chicks on Speed, Peaches. Totally synth pop.

Interestingly, I find that those folks our age or in their teens and early twenties like electroclash (either it's nostalgic or it's totally new) but those that scoff at it fall in between (late 20s early 30s). I think it must remind them of their older siblings or stuff that was too popular. Who knows. I just know that I generally find it fun.

9) These too. Not heard of.

Aphex Twin can be really really good, really really disturbing, or really really boring. He puts out so much, though, there are some really good cds. You kinda know who he is. I likened a picture of him to Jon only Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) is much much scarier and seedy looking.

Tweaker is Chris Vrenna formerly of the band Nine Inch Nails (as opposed to the Trent Reznor only Nine Inch Nails). He's done game soundtracks (Alice is one) and works with loads of people like David Sylvian, Rasputina, Robert Smith, etc.

Chris Vrenna aside: I tuned into one of these while you were out kind of shows and they were fixing up the back yard/patio for this woman's husband. She looked cool without being at all rock-chick so I wasn't sure who she was until they mentioned his name was Chris and he had a home studio. Then I started to suspect and sure enough, it turned out to be his home. Nice job they did, too.

10) I feel like that all the time. Annoying, isn't it?

I feel like this often. I cannot seem to remember words lately. I keep stopping and asking "what is that word?" Did it five times yesterday. You're in good company, dearie.

Me too, Batty, me too.

I will now plan an excursion to Cost Plus/World Market!!!
I've been seeing SO much Reagan on tv today - I'm sure you in DC are going to OD even more.
So have you heard of Kill Switch Klick?
I'm bumping into a lot on the net, but of course it's all either old or obscure stuff, thus the freeness of the mp3s. Meanwhile we have decent radio here, I just keep hearing the same sounding type of bands on it, or retro things from the 80s.

Ooh, I did a search and not only do they make the treacle biscuits, they make the golden syrup bisuits as well!!! Alas, World Market did not have those. BTW, the biscuits were 1/2 price this weekend so you might want to go asap.

Lyle's black treacle biscuits

I love Lyle's Golden Syrup. My British roommate introduced me to that and Lyle's black treacle, which used to be really hard to find (have to order it). I found it once in Canada but before I could use it, it fermented or something. The can imploded. :(

Oh yes, I have some Kill Switch Klick on compilations. I can't say that I recall anything they've done.

Have found that there's a World Market over in La Jolla, nearby! So definitely will have to do that soon. Tomorrow's big MRI day, so maybe Wednesday. Also must go see Potter then, for my Oldman/Rickman fix. Heh.

Dangit, why are we on opposite coasts? I'd love to "force" you to come along!
