Summer is here

It's hot.

Weekend notes, nothing exciting.

This weekend turned out to be kind of productive. I got a 160 gig external hard drive for my mp3s (and for backups), since my current hd is only 20 gigs and I had less than 2 left. I had a few moments of panic there, as I was testing iTunes, though. I had moved everything to the external and then turned it off so I could see what iTunes would do when it couldn't find the drive. Well, it decided to find a new path and create a new library filled with nothing. After a few minutes trying to restore the real library, I managed to import the XML file again and all is happy. I just need to not open iTunes before I turn on the external. Seems to be a pita but I need the extra space, so it will have to do.

After I made a return to PBK, I discovered the Paul & Joe makeup at Sephora. The mascara is amazing. I love the comb much better than a standard brush. The packaging is pretty, too. So are their clothes and websites.

I also discovered that Demeter and Kahala have teamed up to create some "Hawaiian-inspired" scents. While I like Demeter scents, usually, I didn't like most of these new ones. Lava Rock was the most intriguing but Bird of Paradise and Papaya turned my stomach. Blech. I ended up liking Guava Nectar the most, but I still wouldn't buy any of them. And remember, I'm the one who purchased the Funeral Home, Holy Water and Holy Smoke Demeter scents. OK, true, I never wear them but I do like the scent of Funeral Home a lot. It reminds me of the "Leather" & "Suede" candle scent by White Barn Candle Co./Bath & Body Works.

On Friday evening, we went out to dinner and then trapsed to Lowes so I could pick up two 3-gal rose bushes. See, I had purchased three bare-root roses for the rose bed (shhh, don't tell the salvia, foxglove and honeysuckle they're in the rose bed) earlier this season. They did really well in the boxes but I left them in the mini greenhouse on a very very hot day and, well, they pretty much wilted to within an inch of their lives. We planted them anyway, but while the Disneyland rosebush has rallied, the Sterling Silver and Honey Perfume bushes didn't. So I purchased a new Honey Perfume and one called Fragrant Keepsake. They just went into the ground yesterday, so I hope they thrive!

Late on Friday, two of sweetie's friends arrived for a quick visit.

On Saturday, early, sweetie took his friends to see the new WWII memorial (I see it from my building, I wasn't going), then we were off to the new Udvar-Hazy NASM building. We spent 5 hours there. 5. Me! In an Air & Space museum! It really wasn't too bad. Of course, I fell in love with the Stratoliner. Now I want my own replica ashtray.

Sunday was spent planting the carolina allspice, nandina and honey perfume & fragrant keepsake roses, plus repotting some other plants and in general cleaning up the pot area. The idea is to get the pottage down to a minimum (frost-tender bulbs, herbs, etc.) and plant everything else in the ground. We also managed to bury a bale of peat moss in its packaging to start a small bog area for the taro, move a foxglove plant, and lay weed barrier around the sourwoods/honeysuckle area. The three mock orange bushes will go next to the sourwoods (I have to decide if I wish to keep those).

Still to plant: too much.

We made calls to the mothers, sweetie went to play softball, and I had a baked potato. I know it sounds silly, but lately, I have been on a baked potato kick. I don't know why, but I'm quite fond of them. Then the thunder rolled in and it was rather comfy being snug at home. So not terribly exciting but very nice. Since we have a party next Saturday and I have a very full Sunday (have to be at work for an afternoon event plus 50 Foot Wave show that night), it was nice to have a low-key weekend.

I think I have identified the tree that seems to be growing all along the roads here: black locust.

Black locust will be nice for the cicadas, yes?

Oh, there can definitely be too much to plant - I never seem to get it all in the ground in time. :(
