Thanks to you who wished us well on our wedding. The events went down with hardly any problems and people seemed to enjoy themselves. We didn't do the traditional route (even with the church wedding, it wasn't by any means really traditional), which I think surprised some folks. Eric created a lovely loungey exotica downtempo vibe and really set the mood. No nervouseness, boredom, or any of that kind of stuff.
So we're still winding down and may actually get to see a movie tonight, although Secretary is already gone, which makes me cross. The Ring is also already on its way out...how sad.
Last night, we had about 20 trick or treaters. Far fewer than we were expecting. I had the place all decorated up. Three kids even showed up without costumes. I suppose they could have been some trio, but they just seemed to be wearing their regular clothes. The best costume was for a little girl's bat costume (you could tell she like flapping her arms) and there was a very gruesome makeup job done on a young boy. Well done. *gag* But the trick or treaters that amused me the most were two 7 ot 8 year old girls. One was Korean American and the other, a blonde with the cutest little expressions, was a full head shorter than her friend.
The KA girl marched right up and into our house, talking a mile a minute. She wanted to tell me a) that her friend was coming right behind her, b) that our house was decorated nicely for Halloween, and c) that she knew the people who had lived in our house before because they were her grandmother's friends. I said that yes, they had made kimchee and she said "Yes! Do you like kimchee?" And when I said I did, she chortled and shrieked "You do?" and was very happy. Then her friend piped up and asked what my costume was and when I said vampire, she demanded to see my fangs. I showed them and she asked why I had hidden them. Then they both went back to join their chaperone yelling back at me that they'd see me next year. It was very cute. I wish I knew who they were!
So, although turnout was a little light, they were a good highlight. Our neighbor, Claire, also came by. Claire is also very friendly. Her mom brought her, so it was nice to meet her (Amanda) finally! Our other neighbor girls never came over. I didn't see them at all.
Later, I had to pull in all my plants. First real freeze/frost of the season and I didn't want things dying on me. I am pretty sure that some of them can stay out all winter, but I'm just not sure. So the dining room looks like a makeshift greenhouse for now...
( 03:27 EH | o! frabjous joy! )I have no idea what kimchee is and I want to come over and help you eat the leftover candy!
Oh well.
Guess I must settle for the bag o pumpkins I got at the after "Ween sale.
Batty needs an intro to kimchee? Lovely pickled cabbage? Bunny, how can you have neglected this part of her education? ;)
Posted by: Linkmeister at 04.11.02 20:56You can tell I live in the Bible Belt. We had NO trick or treaters this year. NOT ONE. Last year, we had maybe 7. I would have LOVED to get 20 of them! We do our house up real fun too...and now I have WAAY too much leftover candy. *hic*
Glad to hear that the wedding was wonderful! I need to read more of your entries and get caught up. I've been out of the loop, I'm so ashamed!
Non-traditional weddings are among the most fun, I think. (Ours was pretty non-traditional too and everyone loved it being different).
