A night with the...Commodores?

Yesterday was a long day. We mailed a present to the Batgrl (it'll be a day late, sorry!), did some banking, ate lunch, ordered wedding rings and stopped at the Clarendon Antique Fair. And that was all before 2 pm.

It all went pretty swimmingly until we stopped for lunch at the Crisp and Juicy. I vacated the shop within two minutes with my eyes streaming, and sat outside dabbing at them while sweetie ordered, paid, and brought food to me. I had a severe adverse reaction to the smoke in the place. It felt like it does when I cut onions. Like a zillion pins are being inserted into my eyes. No one believes me when I tell them that I have bad reactions to onions. I just can't be in the same room when they're cooking. Ugh.

Anyway, a little before 2 pm, we entered Iota and grabbed some uncomfortable stools at the bar and watched Juliana Hatfield and then Glory Fountains do sound checks. The show started at 3.

Then it was home for a quick rest and dinner (and Big Brother) before it was back in the car and off to the 9:30 Club to see The Exile Follies: a very pregnant Kristin Hersh, Grant Lee Phillips, and John Doe. It was fantastic although the crowd was light. The parking lot attendant laughed when, upon seeing that the parking lot was practically empty when we arrived after 10:00 pm, I said they must not be expecting much of a crowd. That seemed so weird for the 9:30 Club on a Saturday night.

Kristin was as good as ever. I'd never heard Grant Lee Phillips' nor John Doe's solo stuff. There was a special guest star, Bob Mould, too. The setup was really nice. Each person would play, then the next would join them for two songs and the original performer would step offstage and the newer one would then perform until the next. Mould did two songs during Grant Lee's set. Then they all came back onstage to do covers of songs. Two encores. Very nice night of continuous music and banter. Grant Lee is a real ham. He kept threatening to sing Commodores/Lionel Ritchie songs. I wish he would have. That would have been funny.

So yesterday, my sweetie got to see his favorite female singer and I got to see mine. Seems like it turned out to be a pretty good day, yes?

Today, I had another dress fitting. It's looking much like a dress! Candy still has to take another inch or so in. I'm afraid that the dress makes me look more Chinese than medieval. It's a typical renaissance dress but alas, also looks a bit like a Korean national costume. Sigh.

Then it was time for a nap. I'm totally worn out. Phew.
